Since I’ve been on the topic of “writing memories”, I thought I would share something special with each of you. In my very first post, I mentioned that I wrote my first short story when I was five years old. Granted, it was only seven pages consisting of one sentence each, but I was only in Kindergarten.
The picture you see at the beginning of this post is the cover of that story. It has been through many moves across the United States and has seen better days. The plot of the book isn’t very elaborate. It is about, well, my cat at the time. His name was Blackie. Obviously, I wasn’t very creative at that time with names. 🙂
The illustrations I made for each page are what really makes this book special. I can’t draw nor will I ever be able to. It’s just not a talent I possess. So, of course, the drawings are something a five year old would do. Somehow, my cat ended up being taller than me and stood on it’s hind legs. He also had fingers. I’m not sure how that happened…
I remember being so proud of it when I was able to take it home from school. I showed it to everyone I knew. In my class, we were able to read our stories to the class. Even though I was quite a shy girl, I read my story with pride. That’s when my passion for writing started.
It all started with a tiny book named “Cat”.
Hello! I have a young blog One Story Project. I am looking for writers, poets, artists who would be willing to write a guest post or contribute their work (photography, art) to One Story Project blog. If you are interested, check my blog out at http://onestoryproject.wordpress.com/. Let me know!
Aww it’s little kid Melissa.
We should swap our stories from back in the day. I made drawings to go along with mine also. I know there is a cow and a bear drawn, but not sure if you will be able to tell what they are haha. Whenever we get to see each other again, I’ll bring the story… if I can find it.
That sounds awesome! lol. I will definitely bring my collection of “profound” stories I wrote back in the day haha. We can all marvel at my, um, artistic talent (or probably lack thereof).
