I’ve been doing some writing today. It was nice to spend some time with the characters. They can be kind of needy at times if you ignore them for awhile. 🙂 It’s nice to be able to finish another chapter and really hit that halfway mark.
People keep asking me when I plan on finishing it and I never really have an answer for them. I don’t like to rush this process. Making myself write when the words don’t want to come out is never good. I’ve hit some road blocks (many of them, in fact) and I have become distracted. Of course I want people to read it. I really want it to help someone who needs it. I know there are some who will need this book. They’ll need these characters to see that they aren’t really alone. But, that doesn’t mean I’m going to rush this so it can get out to the public. It won’t help them that way.
Of course, we all have deadlines we have to make. I try to stay within my own personal deadlines just so I am making some sort of progress. Do I fall behind? Sure. Do I hate myself for that? No because sometimes things happen and we aren’t perfect. I’ve said that before and you can’t put yourself down for it.
You should always make something that you’re going to be proud of in the end. Something that will show off your talents. Make sure you schedule yourself enough time to where you don’t have to rush through the whole process. You’re going to miss out on some amazing experiences if you do. Take the time to enjoy the scenery as you go. If you do manage to make a few mistakes, don’t blame yourself. Pick yourself up and keep going. That’s the only way you’ll make it through.
Great advice, something every writer needs to remember. I know it was one of the things I first learned about writing. Thanks for the reminder.
You’re welcome. I think it’s something we all should remind ourselves when we write. It’s about quality not quantity.
Thanks for the comment!
Not rushing is always good advice about anything in life. If it’s worth doing, it’s worth the time it takes.
I like your new blog format. Very attractive. Blessings to you, Melissa…
Sound advice.I have a hard time forcing myself to write when the words are not there.

It’s not an easy thing to do. Whenever that happens for me, I just take a step back and take a breather. Sometimes clearing your head works.
