A quick reminder before we get into Writing Prompt Wednesday for this week. The conclusion to my latest serial story, Hello From Mexico, is now up.  You can check it out here.  This will be my last story on Serial Central for awhile. I’ll be posting my next story here on this blog next Tuesday, so stop by and check it out then. I think it’ll fit better here, so we’ll see how this experiment goes. I’m sure I’ll be back at the other site when the time is right.

Now, for the writing prompt of the week:

  • Write a story based on this: _______ always got too carried away with trends and now look what happened.

It’s been a few days since I’ve been on here. My internet is still not cooperating very well, but  I’m persistent. 🙂 I’ve been keeping pretty busy with various writing projects lately. I enjoy finding new stories to come up with. It’s been nice to have people notice your work and how hard I work at it. For those who say writing is easy obviously don’t write.  It’s not easy. At all. There are days when I want to pull out my hair and just quit. But, I know that won’t get me anywhere. I know that this is what I was supposed to do and now that people are noticing what I can do, I can’t just give up now.

Sometimes you have to put yourself out there in order to get noticed for what you want to do. You have to remain persistent and keep going. Someone will find your work and see the potential in you. Who knows where this blogging world may lead me to? But, I’ve been ready for the journey. It’s nice that so many people are going with me. It’s not as fun on my own. I want to share it with the world.

And, you know what? It’s okay to tell yourself out loud that you are talented. Don’t feel like that would make you seem egotistical or selfish. You should be proud of what you can do and how hard you are striving towards your dreams. Don’t let someone put you down. Stand up for yourself and keep going. That’s how you’ll cross the finish line. That is how people win the war.

It’s all about persistence.

That ties in with my current serial story that is still being posted at Serial Central. It hasn’t been the easiest story I’ve written. I’ve struggled and contemplated giving up on the whole thing, but I knew that wasn’t me. I’ve never given up on a piece of writing. Sure, I’ve paused certain stories, always knowing that I would go back to it someday, but this was the first story that I just wanted to delete and forget about. But, I didn’t. I kept going and pushed through the rough patches.  I just posted part 9 which you can check out here.  The story is winding down with only one more part to go. After that, I’m going to be focusing on my novel for awhile, but I’ll be back in the serial story game. I promise you that. 🙂 I’m not sure if I’ll just be posting my next serial story here or not, but I will definitely let you all know. It’ll be a good one and I’m excited to share it with you!

So, many writing projects await and I’m pretty excited about each and every one of them. It’s nice to feel good about what you’re doing because in the end, I know that it will make a difference to someone.

First off, part six of my current serial story, Hello From Mexico is now up at Serial Central. Make sure to check that out if you  haven’t already. As always, comments are always appreciated. 🙂 Let me know how think the story is going.

I also wanted to clarify something from my last post. I have been asked to help contribute on a few other blogs, but that doesn’t mean this blog is ending. I’m definitely not giving up this blog.  It may be sad to say, but this has become like a child to me and it is something that I am proud of. This blog has grown so much since I started it in May. It’s been almost a year and I can’t wait to celebrate that one year “Bloggerversary” with everyone!  It’ll be a good time.

I was going to write a full post tonight with my Writing Prompt Wednesday, but my internet connection isn’t really cooperating with me tonight (go figure..) and my sinuses are going a little haywire. So, I’ll just end with this week’s writing prompt and I’ll make sure to write a great post for you all tomorrow! You can count on it.

  • Looking through your grandmother’s attic one day, you find an small old box that you have never seen before. While your grandmother was out, you decide to open it and see what’s inside.  Continue on with the story.

Just a couple of reminders for you all. 🙂

Part four of my new serial story, Hello From Mexico, is now up. Feel free to check it out and leave a comment, letting me know what you think so far.  Click here to get to Serial Central to read it!

Also, my second blog fest, “Interview with the Character” is soon approaching. The due date is this Friday, and I look forward to reading all of the participants interviews! If you haven’t signed up and want to, then there is still time to do so. The interview doesn’t have to be too long. You can make it as long or as short as you want. It’s up to you.  Here are the guidelines for those who missed it.

  • The premise of this blog fest is to “interview” a character from a story you have written or are currently writing. You can ask him or her whatever kind of questions you want. The point is to get to know them better by getting inside their head.  If you’re feeling adventurous, you can do a joint interview and interview a couple of characters. Be creative with it.
  • There is no set length to this. Use your best judgment.
  • Post the interview on your blog on Friday, January 7th with a link to this blog (thestoryinme.wordpress.com). I will have a post with all of the participants blogs so readers here can go to your blog to check out what you have written.
  • If you want to participate but don’t want to put it on your blog, you can e-mail your interview to me at thestoryinme@gmail.com. I will post it along with my interview. All I ask is that you post a link on your blog directing to your interview so your readers can check it out.

That’s pretty much it. If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask! I look forward to reading everyone’s interviews! 🙂

Some more updates before my regular posting later (tomorrow is Writing Prompt Wednesday after all..), but I just wanted to get this out there before then.

Part one of my new serial story, Hello From Mexico, is now posted on Serial  Central. It’s a little different from The Painter,  but it still has that Young Adult genre feel to it.  A basic synopsis of the story is: A girl fresh out of college goes to Mexico to search for  her long-lost father who abandoned her and her mom when she was a young girl. The only clue she has to his whereabouts is a postcard sent to her mother long ago. Susanna leaves behind her family, boyfriend and life in Arizona to find out about another part of her heritage that she never knew.

This story is posted in parts every Tuesday on Serial Central. Please feel free to leave me a comment there and let me know what you think! Click here to get to part one and start reading!

Other than writing my serial story and my novel, I’m working on another blog fest that should be coming up in a month or two.  I will let everyone know what the details will be in tomorrow’s post!  Spread the word so we can have a great number of participants joining in!

I’ve also been thinking about doing some guest blogging, so if you are interested in doing a guest post here on this blog and/or if you would like me to do a post on yours, please contact me and we’ll set something up!  I always enjoy guest blogging and having another opinion here on this blog. 🙂
